Better distribution of weight, better balance and more
With a lead vest you get far more control over your buoyancy and your balance in the water than you do with just a traditional lead belt. When freediving, the biggest source of buoyancy comes from your lungs, which are full of air. They have approximately a buoyancy of 2-4 kg, so by placing a quantity of weight right where your lungs sit, you get the weight perfectly balanced for the best experience in the water. The best solution is to divide the lead between your lead belt and the lead vest and tie a string from the lead vest to the belt, so that under no circumstances does the lead from the vest get into your neck.
